Call for Proposals for K-SAA Panel at MLA 2020: New Romanticisms

JMW Turner, 'Staffa, Fingal's Cave' (Yale Center for British Art, Paul Mellon Collection)

The multiplicity of Romantic bicentenaries invites critical reflection not only on memorialization and contemporaneity but also on the many modes of historical and cultural disjuncture signaled by the “new.” This panel invites papers addressing any facet of newness with reference to “newer” or second-generation Romanticism. Possible emphases include new frameworks, methods, objects, or constellations of study; the concern with “newness,” “renewal, or “novelty” in the period; the value and/or discontents of the new or the emergent, or indeed of “second generation” or Romanticism as concepts and categories of analysis. Please email 250-word abstracts by March 15 to Yasmin Solomonescu (solomonescu.1@nd.edu) and Andrew Burkett (burketta@union.edu).

MLA 2020 will be held in Seattle on January 9-12.
